I have taught and performed professionally for over 25 years. Currently, I am a certified musical instructor with a Masters Degree in Music Education from CSU-Fresno and hold a secondary music teaching credential through Tulare County Office of Education. I serve as the string instructor for Fresno Pacific University and Farmersville Unified School District.
More About the Instructor: Tim Johnson is a renowned California native: He is a classically trained violinist, fiddler, and music educator who has performed many years with his family band, "Sierrariders." Tim has also performed with many legendary musicians, songwriters, and bands nationally; from Carnegie Hall to Nashville and internationally. As a studio recording artist, Tim has released five solo albums and received the Western Music Associations "Instrumentalist of the Year" award in 2007, upon the release of his solo fiddle album, "American Fiddler."
From 2000-2007 Tim was the fiddler for the award-winning Cowboy band, "The Sons of the San Joaquin and has instructed hundreds of students how to perform violin, guitar and fiddle repertoire.
As a music instructor, I believe that music is a gift from God and priceless to human culture. It influences and shapes people's daily lives all around the world. Music serves as a channel that permits folks to attach with one another and find a deeper meaning of human emotions and interactions. I believe “music has the power to ignite passion and stir the soul.”
As a musician and composer, I have committed my life’s work preparing and developing my skills as a performer, teacher, director, and composer serving in both the local church and my community. I am reminded in Psalms 33:3 to “sing unto Him a new song; and play skillfully with a loud noise.”
I believe music education should offer students the opportunity to grow spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically; music provides students with necessary life skills such as self-discipline, expressive style, responsibility, patience, and cooperation. Students whose lives are enriched with musical training develop a love of music which has the potential to propel them towards success for the remainder of their lives.
From personal experience, I believe that all students ought to be encouraged to participate in school music programs because this gift truly enriches the lives of students and contributes to well-being for a balanced life style. Effective curriculum should be designed to prepare students to become skillful musicians, creative and responsible; this can only be accomplished through the study of music theory, music history, guided practice of music performance, and a lifelong exploration of music and music composition.
Music pedagogy should be offered without interruption and daily for aspiring music students. Teaching sessions ought to be between a 45 minutes to an hour for music lessons. Materials required for individual music instruction, for example, should include standard orchestral and band repertoire, music scores and recordings, etudes, scales, solo repertoire, group repertoire, and theory books. Music students should be equipped and trained to skillfully use compositional tools such as Finale, Sibelius, and Muse-score. Music students need to be prepared to master online education tools such as Zoom, Google Classroom, and Flip Grid in preparation for effectively teaching students via the online virtual classroom.
Students should either rent or preferably own their instruments which contribute toward a personal investment. .
A healthy music program should provide a wide range of music repertoire from the renaissance to contemporary favorites enabling students to experience and perform appropriate music focused on genres and cultures around the world. Non-performance activities such as music history, music appreciation, and general music need to be included into the curriculum for the purposes of student exploration. As a music educator, it is vital that I focus on all music students and support their endeavors regardless of what level of talent they have achieved.
I offer both group and private lessons online or in the studio. My lessons are private or group and separated by skill level and for many different instruments. If you're unsure about which level is appropriate for you, I also offer placement tests!
